David D. Van Slooten

Dr. Van Slooten graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School in 1984. Dr. Van Slooten then completed his neurology residency at the same institution and was Chief Resident in his final year. In addition further specialization was obtained during a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. This included the position of clinical instructor in Neurology. Dr. Van Slooten began practicing neurology in 1989 in Bergen County New Jersey. He is board certified in Neurology as well as Clinical Neurophysiology, Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Neurosonology. Dr. Van Slooten has served as Chief of Neurology at Holy Name Medical Center and Pascack Valley Hospital and is an attending neurologist at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

He has recurrently been listed as "Top Doctor'' by the Castle Connolly Guide over the past 10 years. Dr. Van Sloten authored a chapter on "The Practice of Clinical Neurology" in the book "The Art and Science of Neurology" which was published in 2008.

Specialized interests include Electromyography (EMG), Video /EEG (Epilepsy Monitoring), Carotid and Transcranial ultrasound.

Clinical practice interests include Headache management, Peripheral Neuropathy, Dementia and Parkinson's Disease.

Lorraine S. Lira

Dr. Lira graduated from the University of Santo Tomas of Manila Philippines School of Medicine in 1989. She did require a year of rotating internship in the Veteran Hospital in Quezon City before taking her general medical boards in the Philippines.

She came to the United States and started her Neurology residency at Nassau County Medical Center (now called Northshore Medical Center} in East Meadow, NY from 1992-1996.

Dr. Lira proceeded to start her own solo Neurology practice in Westbranch, Michigan in 1996 where she was the only adult neurologist within a 60 mile radius.

In 2001, Dr. Lira went back to the east coast and joined Dr. Van Slooten's practice. Dr. Lira has served as Chief of Neurology at Holy Name Medical Center and is an attending neurologist at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

Dr. Lira performs EMG/NCV and Therapeutic Botox injections.

Clinical practice interests include Migraine/Headaches, Vertigo/Dizziness, Stroke and Dementia.

Patricia G. Klein

Dr. Klein has been in the practice of general adult Neurology since 1979 in Bergen County.

She originally was a Registered Nurse having graduated from Holy Name School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse while matriculating at William Paterson College and Rutgers University.

She was graduated from New Jersey Medical School, now part of Rutgers University, first in her class. She completed a residency in Adult Neurology through New Jersey Medical School.  Since 1979, she has maintained her practice of Neurology. She enjoys the interaction between doctor and patient immensely. She is a strong advocate of shared decision making between herself and her patients.

She has continued her education as breakthroughs have occurred in many neurological disorders over the years. This is accomplished by attendance at educational lectures, discussion with colleagues and review of journal articles.

She has been Chief of Neurology twice at Holy Name Medical Center where she also served on the Board of Trustees. She has been active in many hospital committees including Quality Assurance and Bioethics.

She has been listed in Castle Connolly "Best Doctors in the New York Area".
